Triumeq is the FDC Fixed Dose Combination of Lamivudine, Abacavir and Dolutegravir. In South Africa it is known as Trelavue and has been available since August 2016. It is available from Dischem and it is about R1 000 for a month's supply. You need to get baseline bloods done - CD4 count, viral load, full blood count, kidney and liver function. You will also need to do the HLA B 5701 test to make sure that you will not react to Abacavir. If all is clear then you can start Trelavue. If you are on medical aid it is unlikely that they will pay for Trelavue as first-line treatment. If you are in Pretoria then try and go to Dr Ezio Baraldi. He is one of the best HIV clinicians in Pretoria

Why will medical aid not pay for it? Is it the best treatment on the market?
