Q.

Home test kit accuracy.

Dear Dr. I had protected sex with another male. I had done 2 x HIV home test kits (from different manufactures) post 32 days possible exposure. Both tests confirmed negative. I have ordered similar home test kits again, I should be on day 58 when I re do the same tests. I have 2 questions: 1) How accurate are the results at 32 days? 2) How accurate are the home test kits? Both tests are basically lancet > prick of the finger for a small drop of blood onto the mechanism. Thank You

The HIV home test kits are the same as the test kits used at clinics, pharmacies and at the doctor. These test kits are 4th Generation ELISA and can detect HIV infection within 4 - 6 weeks of infection. These test kits are affordable and accurate. The most important thing is to follow the step-by-step instructions properly. By the way you were at no risk of HIV infection because you had protected sex
