PABC – Coordinating and enhancing the private sector response to health threats in Africa.
HIV/Aids is one of the main economic threats facing Africa. Business is working together to help empower the people of the continent to overcome the challenges presented by HIV/Aids, TB and malaria in the workplace and beyond.
The Director-General of Health, Precious Matsoso, will officially open The Pan African Business Coalitions members- partner forum on the 14th October 2010 at the Protea Hotel, Fire & Ice, Melrose Arch in Johannesburg. The Director-General will give a keynote address on behalf of the Health Minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi.
PABC will also be officially introducing Dr Valentine Douala–Mouteng PABC’s first Chief Executive officer to PABC’s membership.
Dr Valentine has over 20 years of experience in the medical and health sector. She has worked for several high-profile organisations, including the Cameroon Ministry of Health and the United Nations Population Fund’s Cameroon office and the ILO sub-regional office in Cameroon.

About the PABC
The PABC is an African organisation to deal with African problems. With its head office in Johannesburg, the organisation comprises 29 national business coalitions across sub-Sahara Africa, spanning Anglophone, Francophone and Lusophone countries.
PABC is an engine of business sector mobilisation in response to HIV/Aids, malaria, tuberculosis and other health threats in sub-Sahara Africa.
The organisation’s core objectives are to develop partnerships at regional and local level in order to be strategically involved in policy development and impact assessment, to advocate policies at a regional level and in specific countries.
It also aims to contribute to the sustainable development of Africa through the promotion of a mindset of winning and a committed ownership of health & economics challenges by leaders and society.
Linked to large populations
PABC has a direct link to targeted populations. This benefits the workforce and communities surrounding the companies by providing them with quick access to health programmes.
The organisation has established governance related policies (Human Resource, Financial and Code of Conduct) and development and a field test of the BizAIDS programme, which is now ready to be rolled out to all members.
Establishing PABC
In May 2008 the process to establish of The Pan African Business Coalition on HIV-Aids (PABC) began through a joint agreement between Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Technische Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GTZ), the Global Business Coalition (GBC) and Standard Bank and the PABC.
This culminated in the formal registration of the PABC as a non-profit organisation under Section 21 of the Companies Act of South Africa in September 2008 and provided the platform for strategic activities involving structure manning and planning to commence
PABC is part of a worldwide trend towards greater involvement of the private sector through business coalitions in fighting the pandemic. Further information is available from: www.pabcnetwork.org
