Don't be toothless after a hard knock

Having a tooth knocked out is traumatic. But if you follow a few simple rules, you might be able to save it.

According to M Care, a service of the University of Michigan, you should:

  • rinse the tooth in clear water;
  • put it back in the socket or hold it under your tongue (or place it in a glass of milk or a wet cloth);
  • hold gauze or a clean handkerchief or tissue on the socket if it's bleeding;
  • get to a dentist within 30 minutes.
