If you’ve never used contact lenses before, putting a piece of plastic into your eye can seem rather daunting. But you’ll be one of millions of people using them and it’s unlikely that they’ll do any harm, as long as you follow basic cleaning steps.
Is it difficult to care for lenses?
Not really, although some lenses require more care than others. Daily disposable lenses are used once and disposed of. Weekly soft disposables are cleaned daily, then soaked overnight. Oxygen permeable contacts need to be cleaned and disinfected daily, and with proper care will last for several years.
What about novelty lenses?
While novelty lenses are available in a dazzling variety of styles, care needs to be exercised when using them. While they may provoke curiosity and envy among your friends, you should never, ever share them, as this can cause a nasty infection.
