Q.

Reference from your doctor to go to a specialist for a colonoscopy

Going to my GP to get a reference every time prevents me from doing specialist services as it costs me so much extra.

Hi Marius,  If your doctor can refer you to an academic hospital, it would cost you less than R1 500 to have a colonoscopy done.  One waits a long time, but it is worth it.  Only qualified specialists do colonoscopies there, so no junior doctors will work with you.  If it is for normal screening, once every 10 years would be fine, unless they find polyps.  Hope you come right.  Regards, E
