Q.

Odd Attack

My husband is 51 , overweight , drinks and smokes heavily. His last blood sugar test was 2006 , and normal , although his blood pressure is very high , for which he takes daily medication. However Saturday night , after having eaten very litttle all day , he awoke , feeling very ill. He woke me , and was very thirsty , kept trying to moisten his mouth , urinated copiously three times and was very disorientated. He was a very odd putty colour , said his arms and hands were tingling and he was dizzy and swaying. Kept saying he was very tired , and couldn''t pinpoint exactly what he meant when he said he felt very ill. I was on the point of calling an ambulance when he said he wanted to sleep , and did so. Sunday he was fine , if a little shaken and somewhat disturbed by the experience. I think he had some kind of blood sugar episode. What do you think ? I am very worried and would truly value some advice.Wew have no medical aid.

Dear Sarah
It is very difficult to unravel exactly what happened. If he is not diabetic and is on no treatment diabetes for diabetes, then I don’t think that it was related to a sugar problem, either being high or low. I do think that he needs a check up , to make sure blood pressure is fine.
