Q.

My baby and Diabetes

What rights do I have when it comes to my work environment with my diabetic daughter? As they always seem to have issues when my daughter is sick and she suffers from Type 1 diabetes.

Dear Tamzyn McPherson
When it comes to time off work, the law allows one a certain amount of time that you can take off to look after a family member. The exact amount of time can be checked with a labour lawyer, or the CCMA. Once you have used this time up, then it is at the discretion of your employer, and this would depend on the relationship that you have with him or her. This is always a very difficult scenario, and you and your employer will invariably have different priorities.
