Q.

Insulin resistance or diabetes 2?

My basal insulin is 14. I have been on glucophage for 4 years now. I am 19 years old. Previous GTT showed 9.3, two years later it was 12.6 after my GTT. I now take 850mg glucophage twice a day. Am I diabetic or just insulin resistant?

If your 2-hour value on the GTT is = or more than 11.1 mmol/l it is indicative of diabetes and must be confirmed by another value (it can be a fasting glucose and if that is >/= 7 mmol/l) it is indicative of diabetes. The metformin is part of the first step of management of diabetes, together with lifestyle management (diet and exercise).
