Insulin Resistance

I had my fasting insulin and glucose levels checked this Saturday. My glucose was 5.5 while my insulin levels were 26.6. I have since spoken to 2 GP' s and both say I should re-check the levels in a month' s time. In the meantime I am supposed to up my exercise and continue with my low GI diet. Is this safe? Shouldn' t I start with treatment immediately. At the moment I am overweight, and have been on weigh-less for a few months. I have lost 9kg thus far.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated
Thank you

Your fasting glucose of 5.5 mmol/l is still within normal limits. 6.0 -6.9 mmol/l is impaired fasting glucose and 7 mmol/l or more is indicative of diabetes. It is excellent that you are exercising and following a healthy diet. I think you can only have your fasting glucose re-checked in 6 months' time - the insulin test is not necessary to repeat. If you develop any symptoms in the interim then you need to go back to your doctor. Continue with your weight loss program - as this can definitely help you.
