Diabetic menu

I am a south african presently in cameroon and type 2 diabetics in insulin and injecting novorapid 15ml 3 x daily and levemir 92 ml once and taking glucophage 850 2x day, i would appreciate it if you could help with a diet, the country does not have any lean meat, wholewheat bread, we do not have GI products, no brown rice,we only have pawpaw, pineaple, bananas, mangos, watermelons, apples and pear is very scare as it is imported, we do have a few vegetables eg. carrots, potatoes, greenbeans, cabbage,baby marrow. My problem is headaches and dizzines.

I would recommend that you discuss this with a dietician - the best would be to eat low glycaemic index types of food - even with the fruit you have certain types of fruits that are better than others - concentrate on these. Further it is important to measure your blood glucose frequently especially if you have headaches as this can be due to hypoglycaemia - too low blood sugar. You are using high dosages of insulin so it is definitely possible that you do have hypoglycaemic episodes - if this is the case consult with your doctor on how to change your treatment.
