Hi Susan
Patients with diabetes often have what is called a ‘fatty liver’ and the medical name is non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. This is where there is an excessive accumulation of fat in the liver, causing it to swell. The swelling can sometimes cause a dull ache on the right hand side just under the ribs. The best way of reducing fat in the liver is to lose weight and keep blood glucose levels under control.
