Glucose targets for a 79yr old man, assuming he is otherwise well would be a morning fasting reading between 4 to 7 and a reading 2 hours after eating of less than 12. If he has complications like kidney problems, then the targets may be higher. It would also depend on his risk for hypoglycaemia(low glucose readings of less than 4), as the main aim at 79yrs of age would be to avoid low glucose readings, more so than the high readings. I would suggest talking to the treating doctor to get the individual targets taking any of the above into account.
