What is dementia?

Dementia is a lasting impairment of all mental functions, which can include learning, memory, orientation, language, behaviour and problem solving.

Dementia in older adults is usually a progressive mental deterioration, involving functions such as memory learning and problem solving.

Initially there is little visible change on an everyday basis. Mental deterioration usually progresses slowly over a period of months for older people with dementia
