Signs and symptoms may be unmistakable in an endemic area. The only way to confirm a diagnosis is to identify the bacteria in a stool sample. Rapid cholera dipsticks are available this enables health care providers to confirm diagnosis earlier. It in turn helps to decrease death rates at the start of cholera outbreaks.
