8 things that you didn't know caused cancer

Cancer is a group of diseases that can affect virtually any part of the body. Common types include lung cancer or skin cancer while some of the rarest can affect the salivary glands or testicles.

The causes of cancer are widespread but, unlike many illnesses, genetics are not the main problem. Instead environmental causes account for up to 95% of cancers. The most common of these factors are obesity, tobacco, stress and infections.

Here are just some of the things that have been linked to cancer in the past few years:

Not enough sunlight

Not enough fibre

Salt

Not breastfeeding

Laziness


There are however, a number of seemingly innocuous things that can sneak up behind you and pump up your cancer risk. Trying to avoid these is a smart idea if you're worried about the Big C, but just how practical is it for you?
