Just half an hour of moderate aerobic exercise three times a week guards against back pain, according to the Campaign for Healthier Backs (AGR), a German association that fosters research into preventing backache. Jogging, Nordic walking and swimming are especially beneficial in this regard, the group says.
In addition, people should increase their physical activity over the course of a day by doing such things as walking to places not far away, climbing stairs and cycling.
Not getting enough exercise can cause muscles to atrophy and damage the spine, the AGR warns. Largely avoiding exercise because of an already painful back is unwise, it adds, as this could cause a vicious circle of decreasing exercise and increasing back pain. Signs of autism in young children.
