Who is the transgender advisor?

Gender DynamiX is the first African Organisation solely focussed on awareness raising and rights concerning Transgender issues. Your questions will be answered by relevant people in the team at the office or by our Management Committee member Dr Marlene Wasserman.

Dr Marlene Wasserman, DHS (Doctorate in Human Sexuality), Institute of Advanced Study in Human Sexuality, San Francisco, California; M (Soc.Sc.) Clinical Social Work, CUM LAUDE, is a Couple and Sex Therapist and Clinical Sexologist in Private Practice at Cape Town Medi Clinic Sexual Health Centre. As a Sexuality Educator Marlene uses the medium of radio, television and writing to inform and provoke people into thinking about their sexuality and relationships.  She holds a post as part time lecturer at the Medical School of the University of Cape Town and lectures regularly at other academic institutions internationally. In January 2006 Marlene was appointed the first Africa Editor of a UK bases international academic journal "Sexual and Relationship Therapy".  Her first book, "Dr Eve Teen S.E.X." was released in 2006 and her 2nd book in February, 2007. SOFFA (Significant other friends family and allies of TG people)
Liesl Theron is the founder of Gender DynamiX, a human rights organisation promoting freedom of expression of  Gender identity, focussing on transgender,  transsexual and gender non-conforming persons. Being a gender activist she is actively involved in the organised  LGBT sector of South Africa. Her work focuses on the intersectionality of gender and Other bodies. Her research as part of her Honours degree at the University of Cape Town explores the struggles, support and forming of identity of  SOFFA’s  of trans people.

Advocacy and identity document changes
Robert Hamblin is a Trans man who has represented Gender DynamiX on many national and International platforms. His art is informed by gender and he uses it in his advocacy, presentations and lectures about Transgender issues.

Robert offers assistance with problematic applications for name and gender changes in identity documents.

Transman & Cultural
Tebogo Nkoana is a black post op transman working at Gender DynamiX as an outreach officer. He is a well known transgender activist who travelled thousands of miles speaking out and breaking the silence about transgender issues. His passion is to raise awareness about transgender and intersex issues, especially to black communities and in rural areas. Tebogo is a qualified sangoma and is also able to hold a conversation in any of the following languages, North Sotho, South Sotho, Tswana, Zulu, Xhosa, Tsonga and English.

TransWomen
Caroline is a post operative trans woman with a degree in Theology and many years experience as a Christian counsellor. Caroline has also represented transgender people on various forums with respect to legal status of transgender persons, medical and HIV/AIDS.
