Q.

Stims

What other stimulants are available for ADD other than Ritalin? Have you heard of any other good ones that work? Ritalin causes my eyes to shrink and my eye muscles to tighten. I have been on them 18 years and noow i have unknown side effects. Thank you

Dear ADHDude,

Concerta is another stimulant; often the effects (ie improved concentration) are longer lasting than Ritalin.

Strattera is also available, although it is not a stimulant. Strattera is said to work for 24 hours. Non stimulants (Strattera) take longer than stimulants for the effects to be noticed.

As every person reacts differently to medications, determining the correct dosage can take some time; similarly, the types and extent of side effects experienced may differ.

Kind regards,
Delia
