Q.

New to ADD and ritalin

My 6 year old son in grade 1 was dx with ADD, and now on ritalin. From what I was told it works out after 3-6 hours. He gets it in the morning and in the evening he is very emotional and agresive - can it still be the ritalin? Does bio-strath really work for ADD? I don''t like ritalin, but will let him be on it till the end of the year and then need to change to something beter, any sugestions?

Dear Mommy,

Bio-strath will work for some and others not, unfortunately it is a trial and error process.

Regarding the aggression, some children experience a 'rebound effect' when the Ritalin wears off and become more hyper active than usual; this may be the same effect causing the emotional state in the afternoons. Please consult with your prescribing doctor as a change in dose can sometimes assist.

Kind regards,
Delia

I suggest you try a more natural and healthier equivalent like Bio Strath. Ritalin is, in essence, a drug and with any drug there can be side effects, side effects which children react to differently, some good....some bad. To put a child of 6 who is still growing and developing on a potentially harmful drug seems ludicrous to me when there are so many health products and vits that work equally well. I always say why dont you take a Ritalin yourself and see how it affects you then you may just get to see what it does to your baby child. PS ever wondered why there was no ADD/ADHD or Ritalin 50 years ago? Children grew up and coped and parents coped as well, the normal, natural way. Diagnosing Ritalin to every second child over 3 yrs of age is an evil money making racket. I def suggest that you try something other than Ritalin, whether it works for your child or not - alcohol works to calm many people down but its not good for them long term
