Fussy eating, poor sleeping habits and irritability are not quite enough to determine whether it is ADHD or not; perhaps a more in depth discussion with your paediatrician would be beneficial to get his medical opinion on why he believes it is not ADHD and possibly look into another diagnosis; he may also explain that this is just part and parcel of your son's diagnosis. Another option may be to get a second opinion - ADHASA (www.adhasa.co.za) will be able to provide you with the names of doctors in your area who specialise in ADHD. You will need a prescription for Concerta, which will not be available without a relevant diagnosis. Concerta is sometimes prescribed in place of Ritalin as it appears to have fewer and less dramatic side effects.
I wish I could be of more help.
