Dera Jackie,

There are a number of other solutions available. Counselling can help children to learn new coping mechanisms; Behavioural therapy works toward modifying disruptive behaviours. Play therapy and occupational therapy can also be helpful, as well visitng a nutritionist to ensure the child's diet is limited in the preservatives and sugars which exacerbate hyperactivity. Biofeedback has also assisted some children.

AD/HD should be treated holistically, medication alone is not the recommended route. Finding the correct balance of treatments while not causing the child additonal distress can be very difficult.

Kind regards,
Delia
