Q.

ADHD in 11 year old

I have an 11 year old son who struggles to concentrate in class. He used to be on Concerta, but I can no longer get that on my current medical aid. What alternatives can I give him to help him concentrate?

Dear Mandy,

Omega 3 and 6 can help concentration; your pharmacist will be able to provide information regarding dosage throughout the day. Ensure he gets as much exercise as possible as this will boost dopamine and seratonin levels for a while at least. It is also beneficial to ensure he has a high protein, low carbohydrate diet and try to limit colourants and preservatives where possible.

Best wishes,
Delia
