I suspect my 8 year old daughter may have ADHD. I have heard terrible things about Ritalin.

We are in Bloemfontein and if anybody can recommend an good professional I woud appreciate it.

Dear Tanya,
Ritalin has helped many children with attention deficit disorder, however, there are a number of side effects which may affect some children more strongly than others. There are another two common medications, Concerta and Stratera. Again each person will react differently to these. Youe paediatrician or GP can refer you to a psychologist who can conduct the neccessary assessments.
Kind regards.

Hello, I have a son who was diagnosed as ADD when he was about 7 or 8 , and he was on Retalin for about 2 weeks . I then read an article from the USA, that said that it is so dangerous , when these kids reach the age of pubity and come out of these pills they become suicidal. This realy scared me and took my son off it the next day, and I phoned the doctor and of course he was very angry with me because I shoudnt have taken my child off it so quickly.

I tell you I never gave my son those pills ever again, and he is now 16 year old , and he is doing so well at school , he was even a prefect last year. I often look at my son and wonder what would have happened if I had carried on giving him that medicine.
