Q.

ADD SON?

My soon to be 6 year old son in gr R has issues with concentration. He has been doing OT for 2 months now and are doing 99% of the tasks the OT is giving him with success as well as the homework, he can sit for about 20 minutes and complete it without getting up or anyghing. She has mentioned from day 1 that we might have to concider Ritilin for his concentration. I asked his teacher what she thought about this as the OT mentioned it again this week after I advised her I started by son on IQ. The Teacher recons that in her opinion it is not neccessarry as he is not that bad and the stuff wrong can be sorted with hard work. I read up on the side effects of these medicines and have decided that I will not give it to him. I feel it will do more harm that good as in my opinion he is fine. Is there any homeopathic/natural remedies that you can recommend.

Dear Blue Sparkle,

If the teacher and parent do no feel the need for Ritalin at present, it seems the right path at this stage as you two presumably spend more time with him than the OT.

EyeQ (is this the same product as you mentioned?) is a good natural remedy as are BioStrath and ADDvance. These are generally high in Omegas which is what aids the concentration. Exercise is also a wonderful way to naturally stimulate the neurotransmitters needed for concentration, albeit for a short period of time.

Best wishes,
Delia
