Q.

8 year old

Hi,
My little girl is 8 years old. I picked up some behavioural problems with her such as, not listening, cheeky, unruly, bad attitude, aggression.very low self esteem
This has been going on for a number of years. I only took her to a child psycologist last year. The lady could not say for sure that my child has ADD, we did some play therapy, but could not carry on as it got very expensive.
She does have a concentration problem where she is not completing tasks given to her at school .BUT her grades are above average.
So basically I do not know what to think.
If I tell her she looks pretty in a specific outfit, she will go and remove the outfit, almost as though she does not want to look nice.
There is no weight problem, She is very pretty, with beautiful long brown hair.None of the natural stuff I gave her made any difference.
Do you think she may have ADD???

Dear KC,
It is very frustrating when a professional cannot give you a diagnosis. It may be worthwhile taking your daughter for a second assessment to a different professional. The symptoms you have described could be well suited to ADD or ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder). However, it would be unwise to make any diagnosis without a proper evaluation. Medical professionals can be searched for by area and specialty on www.medpages.co.za.
Best wishes.
