Few things are as irritating as having your nether regions itch like crazy while you’re sitting through a PowerPoint presentation by Bill Gates. What’s to be done?
It’s difficult to carry off that composed, captain-of-industry look when your crotch and bottom are itching like crazy. Apart from trying not to writhe in your seat, you should recognise that itching is a symptom - read the signs, treat the problem and you’ll be a healthier, happier bloke.

Itching of the scrotum: This is likely to be jock itch, an itchy rash in the fold of skin that surrounds your groin. The skin will appear red, inflamed and perhaps a little scaly. You’ll also notice a clear delineation between the area that’s affected and the rest of the skin. In a couple of days the rash may spread outwards and the inside of the affected area may clear up.
Jock itch is sometimes labeled a heat rash or a sweat rash. It’s actually caused by a fungus and you may have caught it from your own feet. Sad but true. Scan your plates of meat for scaly red patches between your toes. You’re likely to pick up athlete’s foot at gym sooner or later, so don’t don sackcloth and walk around ringing a bell and crying “Unclean.”
Ruin the environment While sweat doesn’t cause athlete’s foot it does provide a lovely environment for the fungus to thrive. Make your trouser furniture less inviting:
Wear cotton underpants instead of synthetic ones, making sure they’re not too tight;
Ensure that your underwear is properly washed and rinsed. Any soap residue will irritate the skin;
Dry your equipment off thoroughly and carefully after showering or bathing;
Get rid of a paunch if you have one;
Shower instead of bathing;
Ask your pharmacist for an anti-fungal cream. Generally these are very effective.
If your anus is itchy, it could mean that you have piles or worms. Psoriasis and eczema can also be the cause of anal itching. Creams and ointments can make things worse by keeping the area damp and providing a good environment for the itching to thrive.
Many people worry that anal itching is a sign of an STD. Genital warts or genital herpes can cause anal itching, but the irritation is usually a sign of one of the other problems mentioned above.
In the case of worms, scratching the anus can make things worse because the eggs can lodge under your fingernails and und up in your mouth, reinfecting you.
Anxiety can also lead to itching and excessive scratching and you develop a habit of scratching reflexively, which aggravates the problem. - (William Smook)
