It is estimated that more than one child drowns in South Africa every day. There are things you can do to protect your child from drowning.

Swimming lessons for children are a good idea, but experts are divided on the age when these should start the recommended age varies from three months to four years; sessions should be no more than 30 minutes, as children are at increased risk of hypothermia; excessive submersion is not a good idea, as it could lead to water intoxication; all pools should be fenced off; children should never swim without adult supervision.
