Testicular self-examination
Take the exam

  • Put a foot up on a box, table or toilet seat, and place a full-length mirror in front of you. Make sure there is sufficient light to see your genitals clearly.
  • Using both hands, lift and support your scrotum gently.
  • Examine each testicle with each hand by gently holding the testicle with the middle and index fingers, with your thumb on top.
  • Gently roll the testicle in between your fingers, and feel for any lumps or irregularities.
  • Move your fingers to the epididymis (the tube-like structure behind the testes, which carries sperm and seminal fluid during ejaculation), and check this area for lumps or abnormalities.
