Shaving is something that every man on earth has to do – and come to terms with – at some point in his life.
For many men, shaving can be a painful endeavour, often leading to razor burn, ingrown hairs and even nasty cuts and grazes.

However, with proper technique and understanding, shaving does not need to be a painful and dreaded affair.
Follow these easy steps for a safe, and successful shave.
Before shaving
Wash your face thoroughly before shaving. This will prevent infections in case of nicks.
You may want to exfoliate using a rough exfoliating cream. This will better prepare your skin and beard for shaving.
Soak a facecloth in warm water, and hold it to your beard for 30 seconds. This will help soften and loosen the hair and skin.
Release a ball of shaving cream onto your palm, and apply it evenly over your beard and neck in upward circular motions, making sure to uniformly cover all sections that you wish to shave.
Make sure to use an unused or relatively new razor for the closest and least painful shave.
Shaving
For the top section of your beard, shave from the top of the beard to the edge of your jaw-line in long even strokes.
To shave under your chin and your nick, shave from the bottom of your neck upwards (with the grain) to prevent razor burn and ingrown hairs.
You may wish to pull your skin taut with your free hand for a closer shave.
To shave your upper lip, it over your front teeth to tighten the skin, and shave downwards.
Rinse your razor after each stroke to keep it from becoming clogged up with hair.
After shaving
Wash off excess shaving cream with warm water, and look for sections of beard you may have missed.
After shaving, use a moisturiser (preferably containing vitamins, aloe extract etc) rather than an alcohol based aftershave. Alcohol will dry out your skin, and possibly cause damage.
