Every day our skins are under attack from UVA, UVB, infrared and visible rays when exposed to the sun. While sunscreen protects our skin from the damage caused by UVA and UVB rays, we still know very little about the impact of infrared and visible rays and the damage they may cause to our bodies.

Previously, when you considered buying a sunscreen, you would only evaluate the photo-protective agents (filters) against ultraviolet radiation. Today, thanks to the clinical studies done by Avène, we know that 50 percent of oxidative stress to the skin caused by the sun is due to visible and infrared radiation.

Therefore it’s essential to ensure your sunscreen provides long-lasting anti-radical protection. These specific types of radiation have been proven to accelerate skin ageing, and a powerful antioxidant is vital to protect cells from the harmful effects of the sun.
