However much we moan and groan, the reality remains unchanged for most people: no work, no money. What can you do to brighten up the working day?

Take action:
Get decent coffee – it makes such a difference if it's the real thing (but stick to a cup or two); go for a walk at lunchtime – it will do wonders for your state of mind; display pictures of family and other animals – in stressful moments much comfort can be derived from these; organise lunch with friends who work in the area – a friendly face will brighten your day; don't dress to depress – uncomfortable clothing or shoes are enough to spoil any working day; and get yourself a pair of earphones and drone out the office noises with sounds you enjoy listening to.
