Men and women tend to deal with stress in different ways, experts say. Men usually do something physical: run, go to the gym or have sex. Women are more likely to use their support system, such as family and friends. But both sexes can benefit from simple relaxation techniques.

Close your eyes and take a deep breath; visualise yourself being in a peaceful, safe setting such as the beach or your back garden; focus on your breathing and slow it down to a 10-second cycle, six breaths a minute; inhale for five seconds, then exhale for five seconds; do this for about two to five minutes; concentrate on something peaceful and soothing in your environment; you may choose a flower, a colour or anything that calms you.
