Replace the pack of crisps with a helping of biltong when you watch the rugby. According to South African researchers, biltong is a safe protein snack. High-protein cooking of animal proteins produces chemical compounds that could lead to cancer formation – a process to which biltong isn't subjected.

Enjoy a handful of biltong once or twice a week. Avoid biltong made with a lot of salt, as this could increase blood pressure. Biltong should also form part of an energy-controlled diet.
