Socio-economic factors and lifestyle choices have an impact on the types of cancers men in South Africa get - far more so than genetic factors, recent research appears to point out.
- Oesophageal - This is the most prevalent cancer amongst black men who live in rural areas
- Lung cancer - The incidence of lung cancer is on the increase and a very high percentage of those who get lung cancer are smokers
- Bladder cancer - This cancer affects many more men than women
- Colo-rectal cancer - Folic acid and B vitamins play a big role in the prevention of this type of cancer
