Types of cancer prevalent in SA men

The most prevalent cancers among South African men
Socio-economic factors and lifestyle choices have an impact on the types of cancers men in South Africa get - far more so than genetic factors, recent research appears to point out.

  1. Oesophageal - This is the most prevalent cancer amongst black men who live in rural areas
  2. Lung cancer - The incidence of lung cancer is on the increase and a very high percentage of those who get lung cancer are smokers
  3. Bladder cancer - This cancer affects many more men than women
  4. Colo-rectal cancer - Folic acid and B vitamins play a big role in the prevention of this type of cancer
  5. Prostate cancer - This type of cancer is the most common amongst South African men in general. It is often found in older men
