The Body Shop White Musk Sport Eau De Toilette Pour Homme, R195.00 for 100ml
Reviewer: Thabo Jabavu, freelance writer
I like the Body Shop - I truly appreciate their green and ethical approach to doing business - but until recently they haven’t really catered much for guys. It was the sort of place I would go to for gifts for the women in my life. Well with this new White Musk Sport Eau de Toilette that’s all changed! I love the fresh, lively and fruity scent of this fragrance. It’s young, sporty, breezy and masculine. I love using it as my regular daytime fragrance – it literally makes me happy when I step out of my front door in the morning! The slim, see-through bottle is modern and attractive. I’d recommend this product to anyone looking for a new and refreshing male fragrance for everyday use.
Dermalogica Clean Start Welcome Matte, R290.00 for 60ml
Reviewer: Bryan Porter, online publisher
From the packaging of this product, I get the sense that this range is Dermalogica’s attempt at a broader, younger market. It has a sharp, sweet, herby smell that reminded me a bit of Jägermeister, which, in itself, is not a bad thing. The product focuses on controlling oil on the skin to minimise shine, and while I didn’t notice any shine and my face didn’t really feel fully hydrated, the overall effect was quite good. This product is well-suited to oily, problem skin – with an acid exfoliator to clean out pores and control breakouts that gives the face a tingling sensation on application. After a week of using this product, I had a few dry areas near my temples, but my face was free of any breakouts and after spending the weekend in the sun, I found the product’s spf15 sunscreen quite effective.
Vaseline Total Moisture Conditioning Body Cream, R31.99 for 500ml
Reviewer: Glen Webster, carpenter
I guess you could say that I work in an abrasive environment. As an artisan carpenter I work with rough wood, tools and machinery all day. My hands suffer most, but the rest of my body also feels like it’s constantly at war with the elements. My skin is forever chapped, dry and irritated, so I really need a good and effective moisturizing cream that I can use several times a day. I’ve found that Vaseline Total Moisture Conditioning Body Cream is exactly what I need. It contains essential skin nutrients as well as vitamin A and E and as the tub says, it’s a “thick, hardworking cream containing multi-vitamins and nourishing ingredients that penetrate the skin. It has a pleasant, unobtrusive smell and ever since I’ve started using this cream regularly, my skin feels much smoother and altogether healthier. I use it morning, noon and night just about every day!
Lentheric Masculin Parfum Pour Homme, R189.95 for 50ml
Reviewer: Edgar Daniels, civil engineer
If you’re searching for a strong, sexy and masculine fragrance at an affordable price, stop looking: Lentheric’s new Masulin Parfum Pour Homme is what you need. I’ve been wearing it on several romantic evening outings in the last few weeks and the results have been overwhelmingly brilliant. The cool, luxurious and manly scent of this classy eau de toilette gives me confidence in heaps while it exudes sensuality and style. And the ladies LOVE it! The fragrance perfectly combines fruity, spicy and woody notes and is also available as a handy deodorant. I think the squat, glass bottle looks kind of funky and the whole product makes for a really attractive package. Masculin is available at selected Edgars, Red Square, Foschini, Clicks and Markham stores as well as Dis-Chem, leading pharmacies and The Hub.
Woolworths Clean Men’s Skin Deep Cleansing 3-in-1 Scrub, R79.95 for 100ml
Reviewer: Oliver Abbott, teacher
Hard work, late nights and heavy World Cup-related partying have started to take their toll and of late my face has been looking rather tired, dry and faded in the mornings and in serious need of a dose of refreshing revitalization. Using Woolies’ Deep Cleansing 3-in-1 Scrub has provided me with exactly that. This product contains omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids, skin-softening “marine micro algae” and cranberry oil, all of which make it perfect for scrubbing, cleansing, detoxing and recharging your skin. The white, thick cream has a silky feel to it and contains tiny granules that gently exfoliate your skin. Using this product leaves my skin with a pleasant tingly feeling. You can use it once or twice a week on any skin type after shaving, either as a rinse or as a ten-minute face mask. I’ve seen the effects of using this scrub and have been really impressed. The skin on my face feels revitalised, clean, smooth and fresh without a trace of greasiness or oiliness.
Garnier Skin Naturals Pure Active Spot-on Roll-on, R84.95 for 15ml
Reviewer: Franko Esterhuizen, student
When I was first given this product I was a little confused. It looks a bit like a cross between a fancy ballpoint pen and a small penlight torch. But you know what? It really works. My life is a constant battle with spots and blackheads which seem to rear their ugly heads on my face every other day, but with Garnier’s Skin Naturals Pure Active Spot-on Roll-on that ongoing struggle has become much easier to handle. The product does actually work pretty much like a ballpoint pen and allows you to apply it exactly where it is needed – on and around spots on your face even as they start showing. I’ve been using Spot-on Roll-on for about two weeks and the results are remarkable. Not only do I get immediate cooling and soothing relief from the itchiness that often accompanies spots, but the see-through liquid which dries very quickly also stops them in their tracks, clears my skin and protects against future attacks. The active ingredients in this product include Salicyclic acid, an effective anti-bacterial agent and HerbaSoothe, a natural product with soothing properties derived from blueberries. Anyone who struggles with spots and blackheads should get one of these nifty and easy to use roll-on sticks.
