FAQ: Leaky toilets waste water

A leaking toilet can waste up to 100 000 litres of water a year.

Here's a nifty trick to find out if yours has a leak: wait at least 20 minutes after flushing, then put about 15 drops of food colouring in the cistern. Wait about 15 minutes, and then check the toilet bowl – if there's food colouring in the water, then you have a leak.
