What happens when you put the Old Mutual
Two Oceans Marathon (OMTOM) team, passionate running sports scientists and the marketing
department of the Sports Science Institute of SA (SSISA), and South Africa’smost popular health website Health24.com in a room together? A whole lot of magic which boils down to a thoroughly
engaging initiative called “OMTOM
In “OMTOM Inspiration”, meet and
join our characters and bloggers Yentl Barros (of Health24.com) and Khalid
Gallant (CEO of the South African Institute for Drug-free Sport), as they plot
their 60-day journey to race day - interspersed
with all kinds of SSISA scientific assessments and experiences and they share
it on www.health24.com and multiple
social media platforms (#OMTOMInspiration).
Yentl and Khalid are training for the
21.1km Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon race, which takes place Saturday 4 April
2015. Yentl is a novice runner and simply wants to make it to the finish-line
before cut-off – whilst Khalid takes part in multiple sports and has plenty of
running experience – so his aim is to get there FAST!
to hear their inside story and to meet scientists and experts in their blogs –
sessions in SSISA’s scientific laboratories, on treadmills, kitted out in
all the regalia needed to provide fascinating data;
- Find them
in consulting rooms and even on the couch;
their highs and encourage them when they hit lows;
their pain and embrace their dreams – many of which will feel familiar;
with them, share YOUR stories on their blogs and in social media and
expect to be encouraged and supported in return, by many runners on this
exceptional common journey.
Not only will their running training be
prescribed, with Yentl being trained on OptiFit’s 21km running programme and
SSISA’s High Performance Centre biokineticists monitoring Khalid’s progress;
they will also be exposed to the full array of health professionals offering
testing and professional advice.
In their shared journeys you will be
exposed to awesome technology as UCT’s Exercise Science and Sports Medicine
(ESSM) Unit researchers analyse their biomechanics; body composition and sleeping
patterns. From gait analysis by SSISA’s podiatrist - to dietary recommendations
- to “adapting to change” sessions with the psychologist and mobility and
flexibility assessments by the High Performance experts - these runners won’t
be spared any support and information that can enhance their experience as well
You will be able to find all the
information, contacts and links to these specialised programmes and assessments
- on Health24.com’s dedicated OMTOM hub under the Fitness section.
“OMTOM Inspiration” will
culminate in a state of the art, unique experience at the event expo running from 1 to 3 April 2015. In the comfort of a cafe lounge area
at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), during certain
time-slots, you can meet not only Yentl and Khalid in person, but also a host
of other extraordinary people.
You can garner last minute tips from experts and
listen in on conversations and interviews with celebrities, running legends and
elite runners, as well as enjoy very active scientific debates on contentious
Lucky draws, fun activations and photo/autographing
opportunities will be interspersed with “OMTOM Inspiration”–
to make it an exceptional expo experience.

Oceans Marathon, Stefanie Schultzen is extremely excited about the “OMTOM Inspiration”
