Q.

Zymafluor

Hi Doc,
Can you please advise on the use of Zymafluor in babies who are teething?
I have read up on it, and find it more suitable in areas where water has low flouride content, but then why is it so freely available in our areas, and can be purchased over the counter?
What are the long-term side-effects if one does use this on a baby who is teething, and where the quality of water is good?
Under what circumstances is it normally recommended for babies who are teething, specifically in our areas (since it is available)?
Many thanks - R

It is not usually necessary to give your baby any additional Fluoride if you live in an area where the drinking water has a high natural fluoride content or the water is fluoridated. The practice of giving fluoride routinely to babies who are teething is not as common these days.
