Why should we shower BEFORE swimming?

Health24 posted an article recently that said that chlorinated pools can cause an increased risk of cancer in bathers

Here is the link: health24DOTcom/news/Cancer/1-898,58331.asp (http-www been deleted so message will go through)

At the end of the story it says that swimmers should shower before taking a dip- why is this? Is it because the pool (in the long run ) would be less dirty and therefore less chemicals are needed?

Thanks so much for all your help - I really appreciate it

Hallo Megan
Yes if everybody showers before swimming, it will reduce the dirt, body oils and germs on the body surface that ends up in the pool. Chlorine does not kill all germs and washing with soap and water before swimming makes it safer for everyone.
