Which Progesterone?

Dear Doc
I will be starting my 2nd ivf cycle shortly and would like to know whether it makes any difference whether i use Crinone gel or the oral Utrogestan afterwards. Which would be better in your opinion? Thank you for your advice.

Dear J

There have been extensive studies in progesterone supplementation either given orally, intra-vaginally or as an injection intra-muscularly. Most studies have showed that giving progesterone supplementation is very important. However the route of administration makes no difference in achieving a successful pregnancy. Which means that no route is more superior compared to any other route of giving progesterone. It is usually given in terms of patient’s preference as to which mode of delivery progesterone would be used. An important point is that if you are using oral Uterogestan you should take 2x 100mg tablets three times a day orally.
