The basic principle is that you need to have enough energy to fuel your physical activity, so you need to eat something before exercise in the morning because you will not have eaten for 12 or more hours and your blood sugar will be low and then same applies in the afternoon. But having a large meal may cause nausea when you exercise, which is why you should stick to a light meal like cereal, low-fat milk and fruit in the morning and a carb-rich snack in the afternoon.
