Dear Ginny
No, most chewing gum sold in SA is artificially sweetened and contains zero or practically no kJ. In addition, chewing something that has a sweet taste like chewing gum can 'trick' one's body into believing that you have eaten something. This is why we usually recommend that people who are trying to lose weight and need oral satisfaction from chewing, should use sugarless gum.
