Dear Charity
I am glad to hear that your viral load is close to zero and that your CD4 count is down to 700. If you want to lose weight then it is important that you only do so under the guidance of a registered dietitian (visit the Association for Dietetics in SA Website at: www.adsa.org.za and click on "Find a Dietitian" to find a dietitian in your area). This is important because weightloss in patients with HIV can cause deterioration of your condition and usually should be avoided. However, some ARVs do cause a redistribution of body fat, which can be treated by using a low-fat, low-glycaemic index (GI) diet. It is essential that the dietitian makes quite sure that the diet you use, does not affect your health or immunity or the effectiveness of your ARVs (so no fad diets or slimming pills and potions).
Best regards
