VITAMIN INTAKE AND DIETING

I am 48. (Female) Smoke 10-12 cigs a day. About 20kg overweight. Taking vitamins etc but not sure of recommended daily dosage. Get conflicting reports. Think I am taking too much between calcium tabs, multivitamins and anti oxidants, together with natural stuff from food (am on diet). Please give advice. Thanks!

Recent research has indicated that the intake of exccessive amounts of vitamins and certain minerals can be harmful. If you are using a balanced slimming diet (?) then you need only take a multivitamin and mineral supplement about 2-3 times a week. If you are not having 3 servings of milk and dairy products per day then you will require the calcium supplement because adult women need 1200 mg of calcium a day. Once you stop dieting and are eating a balanced diet and stop smoking, you won't need to take any vitamin or mineral supplements.
