Vaginal Thrush

I have not had a sexual relationship for 5 years and when I went for the pap smear recently, the gynae found that I had vaginal thrush. What are the possible causes?

Thrush is not caused by sex. It has to do with the immunity of the vagina. Recurrent thrush may be due to diabetes but a once off episode should not need further investigation.
