Vaginal Tears

Could you please help me with some questions relating to a vaginal birth.
How common is tearing into the perineum and muscle tissue?
If you have a bad tear will it effect incontinence and cause problems later in life?
How long does a tear take to heal?
How common are infections?
Your advise is appreciated, thank you.

Bad tears occur in about 1 in 200 women. Minor tears are commoner.Bad tears can cause problems with incontinence. Tears take a few weeks to heal, depending on their severity. Do you mean infected tears? They are not very common.
Best wishes
