Using Atarax

Good day, I would please like to know if it is advisable to use Atarax to control cravings after being rehabilitated from medication addiction, as this is a drug we got in Rehab. Nobody has ever discussed the pros and cons of this drug. Will it help me in any way????? thank you.

Hello Michelle

By regularly taking Atarax you will simply replace one addiction for another. Although not as addictive as Benzos, people often become dependent on Atarax, defeating the whole purpose of being in recovery.

The ethos of the Twelve Step programme is clear: there is no chemical solution to a spiritual problem. Cravings are quite normal in early recovery, even in later recovery.

The idea is to acquire the psychological tools to deal with cravings, instead of taking medication to alleviate the cravings.

If you are not attending Twelve Step meetings regularly, you should consider doing so. Meetings are the ideal forums for airing your feelings and discussing your cravings.
