unpaid leave

Dear Labour Lawyer

I would like to know, if this is allowed. The company has approached each employee individually and given them the option to take unpaid leave for 2wks before and after our actual leave period, as it is quiet and also due to the economic situation they need to cut costs? How legit is this?
Please advise thank you

RE: UNPAID LEAVE

Company's do have the option to ASK people to take unpaid leave for two weeks. If the people do not accept then they cannot force them to take it.
