Transmission

Hi Doctor,

I have a few questions on HIV transmission, please can you help. Can HIV penetrate a blood clot? In order for HIV to be transmitted, must a wound contain blood? If there is a cut, but no blood, can HIV transmission still take place?

Many thanks.

Hallo Desire
Hiv is transmitted by bodily fluids like blood and semen. If an open wound has contact with bodily fluids there is a possiblity of HIV transmission. If the wound is covered (has a scab) the risk of transmission is low to none if the scab was not broken.
